‘Apu 604’ table designed in the 1930s by Maija Heikinheimo (1908-1963) for Asko, Finland. A beautiful example of Finnish Modernism.
Heikinheimo worked for Asko for three years before moving to Artek, the newly founded furniture company by Alvar Aalto, Aino Aalto, Nils-Gustav Hahl and Maire Gullichsen. She devoted almost her entire career to Artek, becoming managing director in 1949.
Black finished birch. The table has a wonderful looking profile with semi-circular shelves, curved edges and a minimal straight upright. It’s a very practical piece, would would really well at the end of a sofa.
Some scratches and marks with some light refinishing to the top surface.
30.75cm wide x 66cm long x 57cm high
