Highly sculptural design with alternating laminated slats like the tines of a comb forming the seat and backrest. Solid oak legs with nice detailing.

In very good condition with some minor marks. Benchmark disc to the underside.

NFS - one of my favourite reference books for 1930s modernist design. The Flat Book by architects John Leslie Martin and Sadie Speight was published in 1939 and is a seminal guide to furnishings for the ‘Modern’ home.

New in - early set of four FH 9230 chairs designed in 1967 by architect Henning Larsen for Fritz Hansen, Denmark. Originally designed for the ‘Kar’ Café in Copenhagen.

Rare Thebes stool by Liberty & Co, circa 1900. Attributed to designer Leonard Wyburd.

The Thebes stool was based on an ancient Egyptian stool, an example of which, dating to 1550-1300 BC, is in the collection of the British Museum.
