David Mellor 1970s Chinese cutlery
A set of 38 pieces of ‘Chinese’ cutlery designed in 1975 by David Mellor (1930–2009). A rare and hard to find set that epitomises 1970s design. No longer in production.
Mellor was a British designer, silversmith and industrial designer who trained at the Royal College of Art.
In the 1970s Mellor designed three revolutionary cutlery ranges (Provençal, Chinese and Java) that were the first to combine stainless steel with high quality moulded acetal resin. The handles on Chinese are chunky, rounded and playful but also elegant in their simplicity. It won a Design Council Award in 1977.
The set comprises of 6 dinner knives, 6 dinner forks, 6 side knives, 6 side forks, 6 soup spoons, 6 dessert spoons and 2 large serving spoons.
All pieces are in very good condition, no cracks or damage to the handles. One dinner knife has a small bit of pitting to the blade (one very small bit to a side knife) and another side knife has some scratches to the blade.
Free UK delivery included.
